Ryan aftermath: Schools tighten campus security after CBSE nudge

Within a month, all the CBSE schools have ensured safety in their premises. "Many schools already had CCTV cameras and grievance redressal cell before the guidelines of the CBSE were issued. RANCHI: Almost all the CBSE-affiliated schools of the city have installed CCTV cameras in their premises and GPS trackers in their buses . The CBSE has also formed a committee to frame comprehensive guidelines for safety of school children, which includes provision of psychometric evaluation of teaching and nonteaching staff." He added, "We are in talks with a private agency for organising psychometric tests in all schools.

RANCHI: Almost all the CBSE-affiliated schools of the city have installed CCTV cameras in their premises and GPS trackers in their buses . The step was taken after the CBSE had in September issued a circular to schools to strengthen the safety mechanisms at their premises in the wake of the murder of a 8-year-old student at Ryan International School in Gurugram.CBSE coordinator (Ranchi) and principal of Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School, Manohar Lal said, "A meeting with the principals of the schools was held in October. Within a month, all the CBSE schools have ensured safety in their premises."The CBSE had issued guidelines which directed the schools to get security audit by local police station, installing CCTV cameras in vulnerable spots, getting police verification of teaching and non-teaching staff, constituting parent-teacher-student committee to address safety need of students among others.Lal said, "This set of guidelines was basic. The CBSE has also formed a committee to frame comprehensive guidelines for safety of school children, which includes provision of psychometric evaluation of teaching and nonteaching staff." He added, "We are in talks with a private agency for organising psychometric tests in all schools. Hopefully, it will be started soon."A year ago, a case simi lar to the Ryan International School came to the light in the city when a Class 6 student of Sapphire International School was found murdered in its premises.Delhi Public School-Ranchi principal Ram Singh said that many schools in the city had installed CCTV cameras post the Sapphire School incident."Many schools already had CCTV cameras and grievance redressal cell before the guidelines of the CBSE were issued. However, after the issuance of the guidelines, all the school are following them."Singh said apart from following the guidelines the DPS has adopted additional steps and sent letters to the parents requesting their support. "We have requested the parents to get in touch with school authority if they witness something abnormal about the people around their children."
