Indigo starts direct flight between Shillong and Imphal under UDAN scheme, travel time of 60-75 min

Airlines IndiGo has started flights between Manipur`s capital Imphal and Meghalaya`s capital Shillong under the regional connectivity scheme UDAN. The Ministry of Civil Aviation gave this information on Wednesday.

Airlines IndiGo has started flights between Manipur`s capital Imphal and Meghalaya`s capital Shillong under the regional connectivity scheme UDAN. The Ministry of Civil Aviation gave this information on Wednesday.

This route has been operated by the Government of India to fulfill the objective of establishing strong air connectivity in the priority areas of Northeast India. Shillong is the second city to be connected with Imphal under this scheme. Airline company Indigo has been allotted Imphal-Shillong route flight.

According to the ministry, Indigo airline will operate four flights in a week with 78 seater ATR72 aircraft. At present, 66 flight routes are being operated by IndiGo.

The ministry said that no direct mode of transport was available between Imphal and Shillong. People were forced to take a long journey of 12 hours by road to reach Shillong from Imphal.
