THANE: As part of the Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan, the TMC will install 100 dust bins at public places that see high density of people. The move is to deter people from littering in the absence of bins. The move has been prompted after residents were forced to throw the waste in the surroundings as there were no dust bins installed at public places. Market areas and bus stations are known to see the highest footfalls in the city and the possibility of littering here is also the highest. Several areas witness an ugly sight with litter including cigarrete butts, food articles and packets, etc strewn across the areas. This often leads to clogged drains also that adds to the chaos during rains as water doesn't flow freely in the drains, informed officials. The bins were financed by a private bank that has also assured to finance for ten modular toilets to be stationed at each of the ward committees. The civic officials have already surveyed stretches of the city where these bins would be located and have finalized Gokhale road, Vishnunagar, Gavdevi and Hariniwas areas among others. "These waste bins will be installed at public spaces that witness huge crowd. There is a need to install more of such bins at many other places in the city," said TMC commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal.
