The death of the woman triggered massive protest at Tiruverumbur on the city's outskirts where she died. The protest continued at the Government Hospital the next day with the relatives refusing to accept the body after completion of post mortem demanding that a murder case be booked against Traffic Police Inspector Kamaraj. The arrested Traffic Police Inspector Kamaraj, lodged in the Tiruchi Central Prison, has already been placed under suspension on the order of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tiruchi Range. Given the sensitive nature of the case, the Tiruchi Rural Police authorities had entrusted the investigation with the Deputy Superintendent of Police, District Crime Branch. When contacted, Usha's husband Raja told The Hindu on Monday that his wife had told him that she was three months pregnant.
