City cops will not spare wrongly parked vehicles

  • | Monday | 16th July, 2018

Acting on complaints, city traffic police locked the wheels of around 10-12 two-wheelers parked on a portion of the Collector Office Road and Royals Road. Traffic police found fault with the organisers of both the events for not bothering about the vehicles parked outside the school campus. "We have planned to continue the penalisation drive against parking violations across the city. After drawing flak from public for not acting against parking violations, Trichy city police on Sunday penalised at least a dozen two-wheelers parked on ‘no parking’ zones near Major Saravanan Roundabout. Two-wheelers found parked on no parking zones would be chained and locked," a senior traffic police official told TOI.

Parked your vehicle in the arterial roads perhaps right under no parking boards? Chances are high that your vehicle’s wheels are locked by traffic police. After drawing flak from public for not acting against parking violations, Trichy city police on Sunday penalised at least a dozen two-wheelers parked on ‘no parking’ zones near Major Saravanan Roundabout. Seeking cooperation from public for addressing the traffic woes, the traffic police department here asserted that the penalisation drive would continue in the coming days. The city police had been only keen on penalising the helmetless riders, even the mandatory wearing of helmet has also diminished of late. Other violations such as entering one-way roads and parking violations did not gather much attention of the enforcement authorities, and haphazard parking has become a common issue faced by the commuters in the city.On Sunday, as two private events including a contest for school children were held in Vestry Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School near Major Saravanan Roundabout, at least 20-40 two-wheelers of the visitors were parked on the motorable space of the roundabout. Acting on complaints, city traffic police locked the wheels of around 10-12 two-wheelers parked on a portion of the Collector Office Road and Royals Road. "People are taking the roads for granted to park their vehicles at ease. The organisers of the private events failed to regulate the parking of the vehicles on the school campus," a sub-inspector of traffic police told TOI.Around 12 erring two-wheelers were chained and locked by the traffic police and a penalty of Rs 100 was collected from each. Traffic police found fault with the organisers of both the events for not bothering about the vehicles parked outside the school campus. "It is a welcome move, but penalising the two-wheelers alone is not enough. Four-wheelers are equally violating norms, particularly in Karur Bypass Road," M Muthuganesan, member, Trichy Intra-City Development Endeavours (TIDES) said.Residents also sought punishments for other violations such as jumping signals and entering one-ways. "We have planned to continue the penalisation drive against parking violations across the city. Two-wheelers found parked on no parking zones would be chained and locked," a senior traffic police official told TOI.
