Woman, 60, dies as toll plaza sign board falls on her

Trichy: A 60-year-old woman died after a portion of a toll plaza sign board fell on her near Manapparai in Trichy district on Sunday afternoon. Vaiyampatti police conducted an investigation regarding the incident.According to the police, the incident happened at around 2 pm.Heavy winds have been lashing Trichy and its surrounding and as a result, a portion of the toll plaza sign board, erected around 200m away from Ponnambalampatti toll plaza, detached. Tension prevailed as public gathered at the spot and demanded action against the toll plaza staff for poor maintenance of the sign board.The deceased was identified as Ponnamal from Nadupatti village. She suffered serious injuries and died on the spot.Upon receiving information, police arrived at the spot and conducted an investigation. The board, which was erected on the road detached due to heavy winds.

Ponnammal’s body was sent to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) for post-mortem.Public left the spot after police held talks and assured that necessary action will be taken against those responsible for this accident.
