Woman posing as cop arrested for robbery

Trichy: Police arrested a 29-year-old woman who posed as a police constable and hired gangsters to loot gold ornaments from her neighbour in Thanjavur on Friday. Following which, police arrested the three and sent Sumithra to Special Prison for Women and the other two to Trichy Central Prison, police sources said. Police also secured two youths who executed the robbery plan. Sumithra then convinced Sowmiya to not lodge any complaint.At this juncture, Sumithra attempted to pawn the looted gold chain at a broker’s shop. To make Sowmiya believe the incident is a real one, the two youths fled from the scene on Sumithra’s two-wheeler.

Trichy: Police arrested a 29-year-old woman who posed as a police constable and hired gangsters to loot gold ornaments from her neighbour in Thanjavur on Friday. Police also secured two youths who executed the robbery plan. All the three were lodged in prison after being produced before the judicial magistrate court II in Thanjavur, police sources said.According to police, the accused K Sumithra, a native of Raghunathapuram in Thanjavur, occupied a rental house at Sivaji Nagar. Another woman, Sowmiya, 40, was residing nearby with her two children, as her husband was not with her.Sumithra befriended Sowmiya and introduced herself as a police constable working at a station in Hosur and lied that she had come to Thanjavur to investigate a case.In the meantime, Sumithra hatched a plot to loot gold ornaments from Sowmiya. She hired Mohammed Faisal, 24, of Vannarapettai in Thanjavur and Raja, 26, of Pudukottai to execute the plan. Sumithra invited Sowmiya to her house, and informed her two accomplices to come over to her house.The two reached Sumithra’s house and snatched Sowmiya’s bangles, earrings and chain and a mobile phone at knifepoint. To make Sowmiya believe the incident is a real one, the two youths fled from the scene on Sumithra’s two-wheeler. Sumithra then convinced Sowmiya to not lodge any complaint.At this juncture, Sumithra attempted to pawn the looted gold chain at a broker’s shop. However, she was shocked to find out that the ornaments were imitations. Suspecting Sumithra, the two youths refused to return her two-wheeler.Angered by their act, Sumithra lodged a complaint with Medical College Hospital Station in Thanjavur against the two. During the interrogations, they confessed about the plan. Following which, police arrested the three and sent Sumithra to Special Prison for Women and the other two to Trichy Central Prison, police sources said.
