‘Ready to provide access to Sterlite as per NGT orders’

Tuticorin: District collector Sandeep Nanduri on Monday said that removal of chemicals from the shut down Sterlite plant has been stopped for the past 4-5 days as per the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT).The collector also said that the government is ready to provide access to the administrative section of the Sterlite plant to the management as per NGT directions.Meanwhile, a farmers association from Udangudi, a wing of the Hindu Makkal Katchi petitioned the district collector to reopen the Sterlite plant. According to the president of the association, Ganesan, shutting down the plant has resulted in shortage of fertilizers and that prices have shot up because of the lack of availability of raw materials from the plant.
