TRICHY: The Trichy city police have arrested notorious car thief A Suresh alias Kulithalai Suresh , 42, and seized six stolen cars from him. The cars were to be used for smuggling spirit and red sanders logs.A special team led by Cantonment police crime inspector R Sahaya Anbarasu nabbed Suresh when he was hiding near a parcel office at Trichy railway junction on Tuesday.Trichy city police commissioner A Amalraj formed the special team following the theft of an SUV belonging to one R Krishnaveni, 54 in August this year.Though the police were yet to recover Krishnaveni’s SUV, the team recovered six other vehicles worth Rs 50 lakh from him. The recovered vehicles had been stolen from Korattur, Thirumangalam and KK Nagar in Chennai, Chengalpet in Kancheepuram, and Srirangam and Mannachanallur in Trichy, from March to August.Anbarasu said Suresh had been involved in more than 50 cases of vehicle thefts in Tamil Nadu. He was jailed several times. Later, he shifted his attention to red sanders smuggling.The police also booked Suresh in connection with the burglary of 30 sovereigns of gold jewellery from a house in Srinivasa Nagar here on August 1. They recovered the stolen jewellery from him.The police were searching for his partners in crime.He was remanded in judicial custody.
