EVR’s birth anniversary celebrated

The cadres and functionaries of Dravidar Kazhagam (DK), the outfit of Periyar, celebrated the birthday of party founder by garlanding his statue. The celebration threw traffic out of gear in the central bus stand area. Men and women cadres of the party were dress in black attire.Members of congress, MDMK, DMDK, AMMK, VCK and several others joined the celebration by paying floral tributes to the statue.The police arranged security for the event from Monday morning. TRICHY: The birth anniversary celebration of rationalist leader EVR Periyar passed off peacefully, with cadres and functionaries of several political parties garlanding the statue of the leader in Trichy here on Monday.AIADMK men led by district president MP P Kumar and state tourism minister Vellamandi N Natarajan paid respects to the leader by garlanding the statue at central bus stand this morning.Trichy DMK members headed by its district secretary MLA K N Nehru gathered near the statue in large numbers and garlanded the statue.
