Illegal crackers worth Rs 1 L seized

Trichy city police have, a few days back, asked the vendors to apply for permission for selling crackers for Diwali. Though Diwali falls on November 6, many shops in the city have started selling crackers. Some of the outlets in the city and rural area were said to be selling crackers without police permission. Trichy: City police unearthed crackers worth Rs 1 lakh from a house near Gandhi Market in the city late on Friday night.Acting on a tip-off, a police team from Gandhi Market police station raided a house at South Pillayarkovil Street around 10pm on Friday bringing to light 92 packs of crackers valued at Rs 1 lakh. Police said that the identity of the person who was in the procession of the crackers was yet to be ascertained.The crackers were not country-made, but are manufactured in factories.
