Thanjavur: Residents of cyclone devastated villages including Mundachikkadu, Nadankadu and Kazhanikollai, in Peravurani taluk in Thanjavur, alleged that no proper measures have been taken by the district administration to restore normalcy. They added that drinking water supply has been disrupted since the onslaught of Gaja.On Sunday, a section of residents along with the farming community besieged the house of Peravurani MLA M Govindarajan alleging that he did not take any initiative at least to supply drinking water.Residents from more than 15 villages located in and around Peravurani and Pattukottai including Mudachikadu, Kazhanikollai, Nadankadu, Ponnankannikadu, Pallikondan, Ullur, Mavadukuruchi, Anaikkadu and Punalvasal staged a protest against the district administration and state ministers for not turning up after the cyclone and for not taking any initiative to enumerate the loss incurred by coconut farmers.“This is the third day after the cyclone and we are yet to recovered from the havoc unleashed by Gaja. Apart from loss of properties, we have completely lost our livelihood as almost all the coconut groves have been flattened by the wind. However, no official or ministers have turned up in our area to hear our cries,” said Akilan Rajaratnam, 40, an IT professional working in Chennai and a resident of Mudachikadu.“Due to power cut, there is no drinking water for the last two days. However, we managed to pump water using generator borrowed from someone running a public addressing system,” he added.“We are buying a matchbox for Rs 10 and a candle for Rs 25. No official or political leaders have visited. The only solace for our people is that no fatal incident has happened in our village”, he opined.
