Rajasthani woman sexual assault: Auto driver detained

Kumbakonam: The Kumbakonam west police have detained an autorickshaw driver in connection with the sexual assault on a 25-year-old Rajasthani woman.The 25-year-old driver, a resident of a village near Thiruvidaimarudhur, had apparently left the woman abandoned on the Chettimandapam bypass road in Kumbakonam and had taken a detour with the intention of fleecing the woman. As the vehicle moved on, the location tracker on her phone showed the driver was diverting from the route shown in the map. On reaching the Kumbakonam railway station, she hired an autorickshaw to go to her room. When she questioned the driver about this and called up her friend, he sensed trouble and fled after abandoning her on the road.However, Kumbakonam west police arrested S Dhinesh, 24, from Annai Anjugam Nagar and M Vasanth, 21, from Motilal Street in Kumbakonam on December 5th, and S Purushothaman, 19, from Moopanar Nagar and S Anbarasan, 19, from Halima Nagar in Kumbakonam a day later.They were booked on charges of outraging the modesty of a woman, kidnapping, attempt to rape and criminal intimidation.When contacted, Kumbakonam police said the auto driver could also be booked and produced in the court in a few hours.
