Trichy: Even though a local holiday was declared on Wednesday considering consecration at Thiruvanaikaval temple, it will not affect examinations scheduled in educational institutions.Amidst speculations over many schools deciding to work on Wednesday, Trichy district chief educational officer has clarified that the announcement will not be applicable for schools which have examination scheduled. However, there will not be regular classes on Wednesday.A large gathering of devotees from across places to throng Trichy city on Wednesday for the consecration of Sri Jambukeswarar Akilandeswari temple at Thiruvanaikkaval. To ensure that people take part in the temple festival, the district collector declared a local holiday on Wednesday.While the announcement came only a few days ago, it led to confusions as many of the schools had scheduled half yearly examination on the same day including class XI and XII who will be writing board exams this year.However, Trichy district chief educational officer M Ramakrishnan said that examinations will take place as planned on Wednesday.He said half yearly exam for computer science subject is scheduled for state board students of class XI and XII.Since these exams happen simultaneously for students across the state, it cannot be avoided. Therefore, schools that have examinations scheduled can go ahead and there won’t be regular classes on Wednesday. The loss of working day would be compensated on another day in the upcoming week, he said.Meanwhile, Bharathidasan University has also clarified in a statement that examinations scheduled on Wednesday in its affiliated colleges in Trichy will take place and local holiday will not be applicable for them.
