Trichy: In a hit-and-run incident, an unidentified man aged about 30 years was killed near Mannarpuram junction in the city on Wednesday. With the police remaining clueless about the accused, the mutilated body has been kept at the Mahatma Gandhi memorial government hospital (MGMGH) in Trichy.Traffic south investigation wing attached to the city police found the disfigured body of the man on the Madurai– Trichy road opposite military grounds at Mannarpuram in the morning. Police said that an unidentified vehicle had knocked down the man and fled the scene. Efforts to ascertain the identity of the victim turned futile as his face and almost the entire body were crushed. The police arrived at the conclusion that a four-wheeler was involved in the accident and the victim could have been walking on the road when it happened. Investigations failed to make any headway till Thursday with no clue forthcoming about the vehicle or the victim.Sub-inspector of police of the wing, Sulochana, said that there was no CCTV on the stretch or witness to the accident. “His face was damaged beyond recognition. There is no identity card with him. Our team ascertained his approximate age through the partly-damaged legs,” she said. The police said that the victim was wearing an orange coloured T shirt with ‘Crash’ written on it and a black shorts with the word ‘Serious’ printed on it. The police also found a towel and rosary with him. The body has now been kept at the mortuary at MGMGH after post-mortem.
