Trichy: A special court in Kumbakonam has granted conditional bail to Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department (HR & CE) official N Thirumagal, who was arrested by the idol wing CID police in Chennai on Sunday in connection with the idols gone missing from the Kapaleeshwarar temple in Mylapore.She was brought to Kumbakonam on Sunday evening and produced at the residence of the additional chief judicial magistrate. The magistrate sent her to judicial custody and asked the police to produce her before the court on Monday. The additional commissioner was taken to the all woman police station in Kumbakonam and produced before the magistrate on Monday. Thirumagal’s counsel Kuppusamy filed a petition seeking bail for her. The magistrate granted conditional bail to Thirumagal and ordered her to sign at the idol wing office in Trichy at 10 am every day till further orders.It may be recalled that based on a complaint filed by Rangarajan Narasimhan of Srirangam, the idol wing police headed by IG A G Ponmanickavel had registered a case a few months ago. In his complaint, Narasimhan stated that a peacock idol at the Kapaleeshwarar temple was replaced by another one and several other idols were either stolen or replaced at the time of renovation work carried out in 2004. Thirumagal was the executive officer of the temple when the renovation work took place. TNN
