Trichy: A couple of days after the CCTV footage of a special sub-inspector (SSI) kissing a woman police constable on duty inside the Somarasampettai police station was leaked out, Trichy district police booked the SSI on charges of sexually harassing and intimidating his woman colleague here recently.Police sources confirmed that SSI Balasubramanian, 54, was charged with wrongful confinement of a policewoman, assault on her with an intention to outrage her modesty, and criminal intimidation. The case was registered on Sunday based on the complaint from the woman constable who was allegedly sexually harassed by the SSI at the police station late on December 10. The FIR against the SSI has come nearly a week after the superintendent of police Trichy, Zia Ul Haq, placed him under suspension in the wake of the allegation.While the department-level inquiry is on by a deputy superintendent of police, the leak of the CCTV footage to the media has irked the officials forcing them to intensify the action against the erring SSI for landing the police department in an embarrassing situation. The video shows the SSI walking towards the woman constable who was sitting in her chair inside the police station. Moving closer to her, the SSI bent forward and kissed the woman constable. The police sources said that the SSI may be arrested.The issue cropped up after another police officer spotted the kissing scene when he came from outside. The woman has alleged that the SSI had sexually harassed her not only on that day but also on previous occasions. Sources said that top officials also ordered review of the CCTV footage of the days when the woman cop was on duty at the Somarasampettai police station.
