Diabetic patients need family support: Docs

Trichy: Experts at the 9th annual professional conference of the diabetes club of Trichy, held on Saturday, emphasized the role of families in keeping the health of diabetic patients under control.“Family plays a vital role in taking care of the diabetic patients. The family members concerned over the health of the patient will motivate them to follow diet and take up physical exercise. Above all, the patients themselves should be more dedicated,” said Dr Ravindranath.The book titled – ‘Comorbidities of diabetes- Special focus on obesity, hypertension and dyslipidaemia’-- was released as a highlight on the first day of the two-day event. It the family of the patient adopts lifestyle modification, it will encourage the patient to follow the diet and medication,” said secretary of the club Dr V Ravindranath on the sidelines of the inauguration of the two-day national conference in Trichy.The stress on the families to give attention to the patients was in line with the theme of World Diabetes Day this year– The family and Diabetes.

The book contained 54 chapters authored by physicians practicing diabetes medicine from across the country.As many as 500 delegates from across the country will be participating in the two-day conference, which will impart knowledge on the latest invention in medications and mode of treatment to the participants.The organizers said that the objective of the conference is to ensure that the diabetic patients in interior villages will get the quality and advanced treatment on par with the treatment available to people in developed countries.
