Trichy: V Anandharaja, the Makkal Needhi Maiam (MAM) candidate in the Trichy Lok Sabha constituency, believes in getting up close with every voter if possible. With this in mind, he intends to take up most of his campaigning on foot.Anandharaja was introduced to cadres at the inaugural party workers’ meeting here on Friday. MNM sources said that the campaign in Trichy constituency will commence on Saturday and party president Kamal Haasan is expected to campaign on April 2. “On March 30 and 31, we have planned to visit all the local markets in Trichy starting from Woraiyur. Since it is a weekend, we will get an opportunity to interact with the public to understand their demands,” the 53-year-old candidate said. Claiming that the son of the soil tag will ensure an edge for him over other candidates, Anandharaja, a businessman by profession hailing from Thillai Nagar, said that mingling with the public and interacting with them at their place by travelling on foot will stand him in good stead. His key focus areas will be improving basic amenities particularly streamlining the city’s drinking water supply and establishment of foot over bridge (FoB) at congested spots to help pedestrians and school students cross roads safely. “Unlike my rivals, I have spent all my life in Trichy. It will help me connect with the locals,” Anandharaja said.He also added that efforts will be taken to generate employment opportunities in Trichy and prevent internal migration of talented youths. Starting the campaign from Trichy East assembly segment, the candidate said that Trichy West, Srirangam and Thiruverumbur assembly segments will be gradually covered. For the two other assembly segments including Pudukottai and Gandarvakkottai in Pudukottai district which also falls under Trichy parliamentary segment, a separate party workers’ meeting would be organized to introduce the candidate.
