13 new courses introduced

The Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) here has introduced 13 new programmes this academic year. The first round of counselling for the courses offered in the university would be conducted from June 28 to 30. (Library and Information Science), M.Phil programme in Chemistry, Ph.D programmes in Social Work, Computer Science and Materials Science, and P.G. Bhuvaneswari observed that “students from socially, economically weaker sections and those in interior rural pockets have little or no access to prime government-run education institutions. The CUTN’s growth is reflected in the number of applications received by the university – 40,816 applications – this year from students across the country as against the 27,299 received last year.

Listing out the new programmes, CUTN Controller of Examinations A. Ragupathy said that “our admission process conducted through a common entrance test by a consortium of 10 Central universities is transparent to provide equal opportunities to students from all regions and sections to get admission.” The news courses introduced as two-year postgraduate programmes include M.Sc. Geography, M.Sc. Microbiology, MBA, M.Com, M.Sc. Applied Psychology and M.A. History. The University is also introducing a four-year integrated B.Sc. B.Ed. programme in Mathematics, a two-year M.Lib.I.Sc. (Library and Information Science), M.Phil programme in Chemistry, Ph.D programmes in Social Work, Computer Science and Materials Science, and P.G. Diploma in Chemical Lab Technician. Events held The Central University of Tamil Nadu Registrar S. Bhuvaneswari observed that “students from socially, economically weaker sections and those in interior rural pockets have little or no access to prime government-run education institutions. We have been conducting a series of events to sensitize rural and local students to the prospects of entering our university.” 45 programmes Vice-Chancellor A. P. Dash said that in all, the CUTN offers 45 programmes that included PhD, postgraduate and five-year integrated courses in Tamil, English, Hindi, Economics, Social Work, History, Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Epidemiology and Public Health, Microbiology, Mathematics, Computer Science, Applied Psychology, Commerce, Business Administration, Education, Materials Science, Media and Communication, Library and Information Science, Music and Geography. The first round of counselling for the courses offered in the university would be conducted from June 28 to 30.
