Burglars strike two houses, decamp with jewellery, cash

They also found that 10 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs 11,000 cash were missing. Police arrested the two and recovered 34 sovereign of gold ornaments worth Rs 6.8 lakh from the duo. Fingerprint experts took the sample and the investigation is on.In another incident, the house of Thomas , 50, an employee of BHEL, fell prey to the house break-in.

TRICHY: Burglars struck two residences in Kumaran Nagar here and BHEL Township on the outskirts of Trichy and decamped with 22 sovereign of gold jewellery and cash.In the first incident, the residence of Ramesh, 46, at Kumaran Nagar, a professor in the Government Arts College in Musiri was the target for the burglars. Ramesh had gone to his native for holidays on June 23. Upon returning home on Monday night, he found the back door of the house broken. Later, he found that 12 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 40,000 cash kept in the almirah of his house were stolen. The government hospital police received the complaint from him and visited the house. Fingerprint experts took the sample and the investigation is on.In another incident, the house of Thomas , 50, an employee of BHEL, fell prey to the house break-in. The burglary took place when the residents had gone out of station for three days on account of the extended weekend due to Eid festival. When they returned home on Monday evening, the locks of the houses were broken. They also found that 10 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs 11,000 cash were missing. The BHEL police registered a case based on a complaint given by Thomas. The incident of burglary in BHEL Township triggered concerns of security lapses in the area as it is guarded by private security personnel round the clock.Meanwhile, in a relief to the residents, police arrested two chain-snatchers Manivannan , 24 and Pandi alias Pandeeswaran, 24 from Woraiyur during a vehicle check in Golden Rock on Monday evening. Inquiry with them revealed their handiwork of chain-snatching in eight places - Senthanneerpuram loco shed, Elephant park, Golden Rrock marriage hall , Golden Rock north D workshop, Golden Rock new bridge, Golden Rock bazaar, Ariyamangalam Rail Nagar, and Woraiyur Kulumani Road areas. Police arrested the two and recovered 34 sovereign of gold ornaments worth Rs 6.8 lakh from the duo. They were remanded in judicial custody.
