Police identify spots for sale of crackers for Deepavali

Ahead of sale of crackers through temporary outlets for Deepavali festival, the city police this time decided to accord permission only for select spots for sale of crackers here. Even as law-enforcers have begun to receive applications well ahead of the festival seeking temporary licence for sale of crackers, the city police identified nine temporary spots. The sources said over 80 applications had been received by the city police seeking temporary licence for cracker sale. Police sources said the petitioners seeking temporary licence had been identifying places of their choice for sale. The spots identified by the police and spread under the city limits fall under the jurisdiction of nine police stations here.

The spots identified by the police and spread under the city limits fall under the jurisdiction of nine police stations here. This has been done keeping in mind the safety of public and as a precautionary measure. The city police authorities have already issued a circular to the field-level police officers informing them about the chosen temporary spots for sale. According to police, the selected temporary spots for sale of crackers are Palakkarai Main Road, Big Bazaar street in Fort area, Sannithi street in Srirangam, Panchavarnaswamy street in Woraiyur, Thennur, Annai complex in Crawford area, Mela Kalkandarkottai, Sundar Nagar in K.K. Nagar area and Williams Road in Cantonment. The station house officers of the respective police stations have been asked to personally inspect these spots. Police sources said the petitioners seeking temporary licence had been identifying places of their choice for sale. Some places were found to be hazardous from the safety point of view. The police authorities through their direction made it clear to the field-level officers that applications could be rejected if the cracker sale was not done at the chosen spots identified by the police. The sources said over 80 applications had been received by the city police seeking temporary licence for cracker sale.
