The student’s father, who is a labourer, is unable to mobilise ?15 lakh required for the treatment. After the diagnosis on January 29, 2016, when he was in his second year in a private engineering college, near here, M. Prabhu alias Periyasamy of Old Pettai had to discontinue his studies. After the oncologists at the Regional Cancer Centre prescribed bone marrow transplantation as the appropriate line of treatment, his father, K. Murugan, is running from pillar to post to mobilise ?15 lakh required for the procedure to save his son. “When he approached a matriculation school here, the children contributed ?2 lakh, with which the preliminary treatments are going on at the Regional Cancer Centre. Only with financial help from philanthropists can we save Prabhu,” said the patient’s maternal uncle, Murugan, who is also a labourer. Mr. Prabhu’s younger sister Kanaga has agreed to donate bone marrow to save her brother.
