Soon, SIM cards, new food court at airport

To a query on the introduction of new flight services, Mr. Gunasekaran said he had no information. On the status of the runway expansion project, Mr. Gunasekaran said the State government had issued final notification a few days ago pertaining to land acquisition. Gunasekaran told reporters that plans were afoot to sell international SIM cards, besides opening another food court and a fruit juice stall. Provision of a water cooler was a long-pending demand of travellers, he said adding that the facility had been provided at a cost of ?1.2 lakh. To a query on the introduction of new flight services, Mr. Gunasekaran said he had no information. However, Airports Authority of India was discussing with operators introduction of more flights from Tiruchi. The recently launched overseas flight service to Bangkok from Tiruchi by Thai AirAsia had received good patronage with full passenger load in both directions, he pointed out. On the status of the runway expansion project, Mr. Gunasekaran said the State government had issued final notification a few days ago pertaining to land acquisition. Time had been given up to November 30 for the public to express their willingness, problems and compensation aspect. Only after the completion of the exercise, land would be handed over to Airports Authority of India, he said and expressed the hope that the process would be completed in about three months.
