VADODARA: A four-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a man living in her neighbourhood, in Sankheda taluka of Chhota Udepur on Friday afternoon. The accused, Shankar Tadvi, was arrested on Saturday. According to police, Tadvi lured the girl into going with him by saying that he will take her to her uncle’s house, when she was playing outside her home on Friday. The girl’s parents were at work and grandfather was inside the house when Tadvi took her away. When the girl’s mother, who works as a domestic help, returned home, she couldn’t find the girl.On asking around in the neighbourhood, one person said he had seen Tadvi take the girl towards the bridge on the Orsang river. When the girl’s mother got there, she could not find Tadvi or her daughter. She then asked a stranger if he had seen a man with a small girl. The man told her he had seen a man with a girl walk towards the riverbank. While the mother proceeded towards the riverbank, she heard her daughter cry out from a dist-ance. The woman found Tadvi with the girl in bushes. She told police the accused had undressed the girl and was molesting her and fled.Police arrested Tadvi on Saturday morning. “The accused said this is the first time he had done such a thing. We arrested him and have sent him to judicial custody,” said D G Tadvi, police sub-inspector, Sankheda police station.
