Tekrawala claimed that he incurred a cost of over Rs one lakh for refurbishing his house and the remaining amount for his sons’ treatment. During the hearing, Tekrawala furnished medical bills and other documents which were upheld by the court.The forum then ordered the gas agency and chief officer of IOCL to award a compensation of Rs 1.8 lakh with eight per cent interest to be calculated from the day of judgement. Tekrawala told the court that in July 2015, his son Imran purchased a gas cylinder from Ghanshyam Gas Agency, a distributor of IOCL’s cylinders.When Imran opened the seal of cylinder, gas started leaking at high pressure, which sparked fire.Imran suffered burns and when his brother Maqbool went to rescue him, he too was injured. VADODARA: A consumer court in Panchmahal ordered a gas cylinder distribution agency and chief officer of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) to pay compensation of Rs 1.8 lakh to a retired accountant of Gujarat State Road Transportation Corporation (GSRTC) for burn injuries his two sons suffered due to fire sparked by leakage in gas cylinder in 2015.Complainant Yusuf Tekrawala was paid Rs 23,350 as compensation for burn injuries and damages to his house due to the fire.Tekrawala, a resident of Shehra, approached the Panchmahal District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum in July last year seeking an amount of Rs two lakh as compensation along with Rs 50,000 towards mental harassment and legal costs.
