Vadodara: MS University has cancelled booking of popular stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra’s show after receiving representation from a motley group just 11 former students who had claimed that he was “anti-national”.The show titled ‘OTB’s Catching Up with Kunal Kamra and featuring Manish Tyagi’ was scheduled on August 11 at professor C C Mehta Auditorium. A booking website where the tickets of the show could be booked online displayed that the entire show was sold-out with ticket prices ranging from Rs 399 to Rs 749.The group on Saturday had sent an email to MSU vice-chancellor (VC) professor Parimal Vyas claiming that they suspected “some ideological conspiracy to pollute the minds of Barodian youth ahead of 2019.”“Kamra has mimicked the national anthem. He has openly supported ‘Tukde-Tukde’ gang and there was no reason why he should have been allowed to enter our sacred alma mater,” alleged Hemang Joshi, former faculty general secretary of Faculty of Social Work of MSU.When contacted, VC confirmed that he had asked professor Rakesh Modi, co-ordinator of the auditorium, to examine the matter. “I had instructed the co-ordinator to examine all the aspects and take appropriate decision. We do not want university to be dragged in any political issue unnecessarily,” Vyas told TOI on Sunday.Modi, however, confirmed that the booking for the show has been cancelled. “Based on the complaint and earlier reports, we have decided to cancel the booking as there could have been security issues,” said Modi.The show organizers have been verbally communicated about the cancellation.
