Vadodara: When the Ganesh immersion processions take off in the city, the police will play DJ in the old city areas. In a bid to prevent any incident of rioting, the police have decided to install its own music system and play devotional and patriotic songs. We will play devotional songs throughout the evening till the Ganesh immersion processions are over,” said Anupam Singh Gahlaut, city police commissioner. The police said that they have to be on alert as mischief mongers often use any trick to provoke the crowd in communally sensitive areas.“Within minutes, the situation becomes tense and it may lead to riots. Sometimes, DJs accompanying processions play provocative songs and miscreants in the crowd pass unnecessary comments that lead to trouble,” a police official said. So, the cops have decided to play their own songs loudly to drown the DJ music this year as well. The music system will be installed near Panigate and Mandvi area as lot of processions pass from here. Also, no one complains against patriotic and devotional songs. Gahlaut has already warned the DJs against playing any vulgar songs during the Ganesh processions. The walled city areas have witnessed communal riots in the past after the DJs played certain songs. Apart from the music system, the cops have also decided to field its personnel in the deep by-lanes of the walled city. They will monitor these areas both from the building terraces and foot patrolling.
