The accused has admitted to have committed seven similar loots in the city in last two years. Crime branch sleuths said that Pathan was a notorious and intelligent criminal.According to the police, a number of cops had been patrolling the city areas to track down Pathan on the basis of CCTV images they had. “One of our police teams got information that a man was standing near Vadi Wadi Crossroads with a two-wheeler and his description matched the CCTV images we had. The cops immediately picked him up and frisked him,” said Jaydeepsinh Jadeja, DCP (crime).He was carrying a small knife and a mobile phone that was seized and he was arrested.“When questioned, Pathan revealed that he was involved in the loot at house of 85-year-old Anjali Khopkar’s in Akota some days ago. He had done recce of the colony and found out that the house next to Khopkar was locked since long. So he approached Khopkar and inquired about the neighbouring house,” Jadeja said.He then asked for water and entered the house. Khopkar had suffered head injuries when he attacked her while looting her jewellery. Pathan, a resident of Jamnagar, admitted to have looted six other elderly women using similar modus operandi in different areas of the city over last two years.“Pathan used to do recce of the residential colonies and looked for locked homes with elderly neighbours. He then chose the places where elderly people stayed alone and looted them by entering their homes under some pretext,” Jadeja added.Pathan sold the looted jewellery to Savaram Rabari, a jeweller who too has been arrested by the cops. Looted gold jewellery worth Rs 87,500 has been recovered from Rabari.Pathan committed three loots in 2017 and four this year. When he was nabbed, he was planning to visit Surat for committing similar loots there, the police said.“Pathan wanted to live a luxurious life. He used to gamble and was a spendthrift. He used to stay in a hotel on Jetalpur Road and leave the city after committing the crimes,” Jadeja said. Pathan has two wives and two children.
