CCTVs give no clues in attempted gold loot case

Vadodara: The gang of four that made a vain attempt to loot gold from Manappuram Finance Ltd (MFL) Ajwa Road office on Monday are suspected to be professional and some of them could be locals.They had also used fake number plates on the two bikes on which they came. Police said that the gang knew the exact location of CCTVs installed on the road near MFL on Ajwa Road.“We examined the CCTV footage of the crossroads near MFL office, but the robbers were not seen. It seems that they knew the exact location of CCTVs. So, before coming to the MFL office and after fleeing from the spot, they used some internal roads that are not covered with CCTVs. It means that at least one member of the gang must be a local who knows the internal roads,” a police official said.Cops are trying to find out eyewitnesses who may have seen the gang flee.“We got licensed plate numbers of the motorbikes they used. All the numbers are fake. The numbers on their motorbikes are allotted to bikes of different make. These gang members seem to be professional and may have committed such crimes in the past,” the official added.MFL management too is expected to give CCTV footage of its office to the police soon.The gang had come on two motorbikes and entered the MFL office between 3 pm and 4 pm. One of them entered as a customer then signalled the other three gang members who too came in the office. Two of them then took out country-made pistols and threatened everyone. Six employees and five customers were present in the office. The gang members had worn helmets and two had covered face with a piece of cloth.They asked all customers and employees in the office to gather at one place and then asked for directions to the locker room where the gold ornaments are kept. They were about the enter the locker room but the alarm went off due to unauthorized entry of the gang. The siren is a part of their internal security system. They panicked and fled from the office on their motorbikes.
