Vadodara: Two traffic cops and a contract labourer of the towing van were assaulted by a mob on Rajmahal Road on Saturday evening after they towed a bike.Two persons who thrashed them were arrested by Navapura police. The duo has been identified as Anil Ranpariya, a resident of Gorwa, and Suresh Purohit, a resident of Nizampura.Head constable Narendrasinh Parmar and police constable Lalji Hirabhai, who work with traffic branch, were patrolling around Khanderao Market on Rajmahal Road to tow bikes and scooters that were parked illegally. When their towing van was heading towards the statue of Bhagat Singh outside Laal Court, Purohit rushed in front of the van to stop it.Purohit allegedly started shouting and hurling abuses at cops as his bike was towed from near Khanderao Market. When the two cops tried to talk to him, he got into a scuffle and a crowd gathered there. Meanwhile, Bhavesh Bariya, a contract labourer working with the towing van tried to intervene, but he was thrashed by some.A PCR van reached there, the crowd dispersed, cops held Purohit and Ranpariya. Police said that Ranpariya had nothing to do with the incident, but he thrashed Bariya as others from crowd were also beating him up.Bariya was taken to SSG Hospital for treatment.tnn
