While the GIS mapping of properties in the city has been taken up by the civic body, that for underground service lines was yet to take place.VMC officials said that the GIS mapping of underground service lines like drainage, sewage and gas pipelines as well as other cables will ensure that these are not damaged during development works or work to lay new underground service lines. Presently, it is not uncommon to see underground service lines being damaged during development works or that of laying cables.Officials said that the GIS mapping will also help the civic body in taking up repair works of damage to various service lines. Presently, detailed maps of service lines across the city are not available. Vadodara: Vadodara Smart City Development Ltd, the special purpose vehicle floated for implementation of the Smart City projects in the city, gave its nod to a proposal for a Geographic Information System (GIS) of underground service lines.VMC has been eyeing to have GIS mapping of both properties and underground service lines since several years now.
