Vadodara: A family from city was attacked by a mob on Monday in hill station Lonavala where they had gone for a holiday over the weekend.Six persons from the family living in Fatehgunj were injured in the attack that resulted out of a monetary transaction with a camel cart owner on Tiger Point Hill.According to the complaint given by Ibad Memon, the kids insisted on riding a camel on the top of Tiger Point Hill on Monday evening. Before the ride, the camel owner had fixed the price for Rs 150 for one person. However, after Memon’s nephew Asim Motiwala got down from the camel, the owner demanded Rs 250.Thsi resulted in an argument between the camel owner and Asim. Memon alleged that the camel owner hurled abuses at Motiwala and also punched him. Meanwhile, Memon went to the camel owner to question him over the attack during which an unidentified person hit Asim with a glass bottle.Memon also told police that within no time, a mob of local stall owners gathered there with wooden sticks and iron rods and started thrashing the family members. Memon’s another nephew Asif Motiwala was also hit with a glass bottle on his face leading to profuse bleeding.Memon quickly made everyone sit in the car to rush them to hospital, but the mob did not allow them to leave. He stated in his complaint that it was only after he paid Rs 3,000 cash that the accused allowed them to leave.When they reached hospital, they realized that many persons from the mob had robbed the family members of their valuables. An expensive watch worth Rs 20,000, a ladies purse, Rs 8,000 cash and a pair of diamond earrings were lost in the melee.The injured persons include Ahmed Memon, Sufiyan Memon, Raeesa Memon, Nazar Memon, Asim and Asif. Sources said that the Lonavala rural police made some arrests on Tuesday and are searching for others who were involved.
