New FGI office-bearers get elected uncontested

Vadodara: The Federation of Gujarat Industries (FGI), one of the oldest industrial bodies of the state founded in 1918, got a new team of office-bearers whowere elected uncontested on Friday. Mankad, who was eventually elected, is serving as the FGI president till date. Manohar Chawla is the new FGI president, while Paresh Saraiya is the senior vice-president and Abhishek Gangwal is the vice-president. On the last day of filing nomination for the four posts, only one nomination each was filed for each post, resulting in all four candidates getting elected uncontested. Even then three other posts, including that of the senior vice-president, vice-president and honorary treasurer, had gone uncontested.

Manohar Chawla is the new FGI president, while Paresh Saraiya is the senior vice-president and Abhishek Gangwal is the vice-president. Bharat Shah has been elected as honorary treasurer of the industrial body. The office-bearers will serve a two-year term from 2019 to 2021. They will take charge in the first week of April.Chawla is the director of Ashwin Vanaspati Industries Private Limited, while Saraiya is the managing director of Transpek Silox Industry Private Limited. Gangwal is the director of HPS Gases Limited and Shah is director of Gautam Infin Limited.Office-bearers to the FGI are usually elected by 25 members of the managing committee who have voting rights. These 25 members are also eligible to nominate themselves for the posts, include 10 sitting members. Two years ago, FGI witnessed a real contest when Janak Sheth and Nitin Mankad had filed their candidatures for the post of the president. Even then three other posts, including that of the senior vice-president, vice-president and honorary treasurer, had gone uncontested. Mankad, who was eventually elected, is serving as the FGI president till date.
