150 teachers detained in Godhra

Vadodara: Over 150 teachers were detained in Godhra while on their way to join the agitation by primary teachers in Gandhinagar. The teachers included those from the Panchmahal, Mahisagar and Dahod districts.The teachers had planned an agitation at the state assembly in Gandhinagar. Their demands included implementation of the old pension scheme, separate grade pay for primary teachers, consideration of fix-pay service period for determining seniority and promotions as well as others.Teachers from Panchmahal, Mahisagar and Dahod districts were detained when they reached Godhra from different roads. Most of the teachers were stopped at the Gandhi Chowk and Bhuravav crossroads where the police was exercising vigil since early on Friday morning.Sources said that in all 154 teachers were detained by the police and taken to the Godhra A division police station and then the police headquarters. They were allowed to go late in the afternoon after the agitation at Gandhinagar ended.
