Vadodara: Did your car break down in the middle of the road or its tyre punctured? Now, you won’t have call up the service centre or wait for some friend to pick you up from middle of the road. Women from the city were taught some basic skills of repairing a car by Seema Shah who runs a car service centre in the city. Shah had organized a workshop for the women who drive four-wheelers but are not aware of its mechanism.“If we see around, many women have started driving cars but very few of them understand the vehicle’s mechanism. If their car breaks down in the middle of the road, most women won’t know even basic repair work. They can’t even change the punctured tyres. Whereas most men have such skills,” Shah told TOI.“So I decided to organize a workshop for women who drive cars and the response was encouraging. I taught them how to change tyres, check radiator and change the water and how to check battery wires. Also, if their vehicle is to be towed, where to fasten the rope on their car,” Shah said.Over a dozen women turned up for the workshop ‘She on Wheels’ and they were not just given a demo but also asked to do the repair work. “Many women don’t drive the car as they fear that they would be rendered helpless if their vehicle breaks down. The women, who attended our workshop, said that now their confidence to drive car has gone up,” Shah added.Shah said that she wanted to teach something meaningful to women for celebrating the women’s day this year. “Next, I will be teaching women on how to do basic electricity work at home,” she said.
