Travel agent booked for cheating citizens

Vadodara: The detection of crime branch (DCB) on Friday booked a travel agent who duped several people with promises of sending them abroad. The accused had floated a fake travel agency promising people visas for Canada. When he realized that these were fake, Maurya demanded his money back from Chauhan, but the accused kept dilly-dallying the matter. While giving applicants their passports, the accused used to charge them again of amounts ranging anywhere from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.

Vadodara: The detection of crime branch (DCB) on Friday booked a travel agent who duped several people with promises of sending them abroad. Cops booked Parminder Singh Chauhan, a resident of Punjab, after a city-based agent Vipin Kumar Maurya approached the police some time ago.According to police, Maurya’s wife had brought in six clients in 2016 who wanted to shift to Georgia and wanted a temporary residence card (TRC). Maurya approached Chauhan who promised to get him TRC for his six clients. He also deposited Rs 13.2 lakh in various bank accounts of Chauhan.Chauhan prepared fake e-visas and even sent photos of fake flight tickets to Maurya. When he realized that these were fake, Maurya demanded his money back from Chauhan, but the accused kept dilly-dallying the matter. Maurya finally approached the cops after two-and-half years with his complaint. Cops assured him that they will soon begin to search for Chauhan.The special operations group (SOG) busted another fake visa racket four days ago and arrested two persons. In this case, the accused had cheated more than 150 persons from across the state of Rs 2.5 crore collectively. The accused had floated a fake travel agency promising people visas for Canada. They used to charge Rs 25,000 as processing fee and would put fake electronic travel authorization (ETA) stickers on the passports of the applicants. While giving applicants their passports, the accused used to charge them again of amounts ranging anywhere from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
