Vadodara: MS University has removed Dr D K Chellani as officiating head of the Department of Banking and Insurance of Faculty of Commerce. "The leadership of the department cannot continue with the same person for such a long period. But Chellani continued as officiating head for over a decade-and-a-half.Chellani had himself requested in the past to relieve him from the in-charge headship of the department as he had to carry out all jobs related to paper setting, results and viva among others. The charge of the department has been handed over to the dean of faculty professor Sharad Bansal.Being the only permanent teacher at his department, Chellani was so far running the department as a one-man army for over 15 years. In fact, even in the case of regular head of departments, the maximum tenure is of two terms of five years each. To bring in vibrancy, we were of the opinion that since there is only one person at the department who is burdened with all the works, we need to take help of other departments also," said Bansal, adding that this will also broaden the scope of the department which has a large number of students and courses.
