Bank asks man to repay Rs 1.45cr he never took

Vadodara: Surendrasinh Chavda, who runs tuition classes in Karjan town, was shocked when he received a notice from Bank of Baroda asking him to repay a loan of Rs 1.45 crore.He was described as the guarantor in the notice. Police said that Chavda had approached the directors of the company in 2014 for an education loan of Rs 15 lakh after seeing an advertisement in newspaper. Chavda had neither consented to be the guarantor and neither signed any loan papers.When Chavda checked the notice, the loan was taken by directors of Vadodara-based M Tech Hardware Private Limited. He told police that the four had used his documents and forged his signature as the guarantor.Chavda has requested the police to check the CCTV footages of the bank too. Cops said that the duo had again visited him with another person to evaluate the property.

Two of the accused Rajesh Soni and Kaumil Modi had come to meet Chavda and promised him the loan.Trusting the duo, Chavda gave them documents and copy of the sale deed of his plot in Karjan as mortgage. Cops said that the duo had again visited him with another person to evaluate the property. Chavda told the police in his complaint that after 15 days, they brought two other persons - Yogendrasinh Rana and Dhara Modi — and said that they would take a loan in the name of their company and distribute the money to 10 other people who, like Chavda, are in need of money.Chavda had refused the loan after hearing the offer but after a year he received a notice to repay the loan of Rs 1.45 crore, police said. He told police that the four had used his documents and forged his signature as the guarantor.Chavda has requested the police to check the CCTV footages of the bank too.
