Malakondaiah, Director General of Police, cautioned the public about believing social media rumours and taking the law into their own hands. He said that stories of gangs from the migrant Parthi community kidnapping children were false. “In October last year, we arrested 16 gang members from the Parthi community,” he said. “While some of them are in prison, those released are attending courts. We have also put vigil on those in Maharashtra in coordination with the local police, and all are under our radar. There are no such gangs on the prowl. Also, there are no kidnappers targeting children.” Dr. Malakondaiah also said that strict action would be taken against those taking the law into their own hands. “All those people being beaten up by the public in various areas are either homeless or daily wagers from other States. People should dial 100 and inform police if they find any suspicious persons,” Dr. Malakondiah said.
