Vijayawada: Implementing railway board’s orders, Vijayawada railway division introduced the ‘Train Captain’ concept in the Vizag-bound Ratnachal Express on Thursday. The main motive behind the concept is to bring better coordination amongst different service personnel working in trains and to improve the quality of service to passengers.Railway board issued the orders in a circular dated June 8. In trains like Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Duronto and other trains where a train superintendent (TS) is on end-to-end basis, now the TS shall be nominated as Train Captain and made responsible for all the facilities on train. In other trains, senior most ticket checking staff on board would be nominated as the Train Captain.M Srinivas Rao, a senior Train Ticket Examiner was nominated as the Train Captain for Ratnachal Express heading towards Vizag while JV Raghunath Babu was appointed for the train bound to Vijayawada. Officials said that the train captain will have access to all depute services for passengers and redress complaints in a more easier and efficient manner. The complaints taken up from commercial control office through Twitter or helplines would be directed to him for redressal.Other trains like Telangana Express, Venkatadri Express, Sachkhand Express, Palnadu Express, Tirupati - Secunderabad Express and Rayalseema Express too has Train Captain service introduced. Long distance Mail / Express trains are provided with large team of railway personnel and outsourced staff of catering, cleanliness on-board for offering various services to the passengers and to provide maintenance on run. Name and contact number of the Train Captain is made available to the passengers through reservation chart before departure of the train.Other TTEs working in the train as well as the supervisors of OBH staff, pantry manager, bedroll contractor, AC coach attendants etc will SMS their mobile numbers to the Train Captain. During the journey, Train Captain stays in touch with the other service personnel and ensure that they discharge their duty promptly and efficiently.
