Cycle rally for awareness on crime against women

With the intention of preventing crime against women and spreading awareness, a team of women police officers embarked on a cycle rally – 'Chaitanya Yatra', here on Saturday morning. We want to prevent them and the Mahila Rakshak teams are playing a significant role in this regard. Further outlining the measures taken by the police to ensure women’s safety, Mr. Jatti said that they have deployed about 20 Mahila Rakshak teams, who have been playing an active role in preventing crime against women. We have also been conducting awareness on 'Good Touch – Bad Touch' for the past one year,” he added. “We have been conducting several such bicycle awareness rallies with the help of Mahila Rakshak teams (SHE Teams) and under this campaign, the women police officers will travel to every corner of the district and explain the work being done by the department , besides spreading awareness,” he said.

Kurnool Superintendent of Police Gopinath Jatti flagged off the rally from the District Police Office near Konda Reddy Buruju (Fort) and remarked that the rally would focus on creating awareness, right from the mandal to village levels, on issues such as child marriages, dowry and sexual harassment, suicides, eve-teasing etc., via programmes and instill self-confidence among women. Lauding the efforts of the police officers for embarking on the campaign, leaving behind their friends and family for nearly 1.5 months, Mr. Jatti said that their work was commendable as they would be educating people on the issues plaguing the society. Mr. Jatti urged support from denizens, NGOs, governmental organisations and the media to make the programme successful. “We have been conducting several such bicycle awareness rallies with the help of Mahila Rakshak teams (SHE Teams) and under this campaign, the women police officers will travel to every corner of the district and explain the work being done by the department , besides spreading awareness,” he said. Further outlining the measures taken by the police to ensure women’s safety, Mr. Jatti said that they have deployed about 20 Mahila Rakshak teams, who have been playing an active role in preventing crime against women. “For the past several years, there has been a rise in crimes against women and children, with many cases being registered and incidents reported across the district. We want to prevent them and the Mahila Rakshak teams are playing a significant role in this regard. They are highlighting issues such as eve-teasing in schools and colleges, sexual harassment at workplace , precautions to be taken by denizens residing in apartments, colonies etc. We have also been conducting awareness on 'Good Touch – Bad Touch' for the past one year,” he added. Women's Police Station Deputy Superintendent of Police Venkatadri said that the 14-member 'Chaitanya Yatra' team would be led by SI L. Vijayalakshmi and would travel nearly 1500 km during the rally.
