Closure of Nagarjuna Sagar Gates disappoints tourists

GUNTUR: Tourists were disappointed when the authorities stopped the release of water from the crest gates at Nagarjuna Sagar project within few hours after opening the gates. People reached the Sagar project area in good numbers right in the morning with reports indicating that stage has been readied for opening the gates. However, it could not get much water due to the closure of gates at Sagar. Although, about 90000 cusecs were being released from Srisailam, about 20000 cusecs are being utilized for the local canals putting the inflows at Nagarjuna Sagar just around 70000 cusecs. With the inflows suddenly dipped from the upstream, the authorities closed the shutters leaving the tourists upset.
