It was a visual treat for the devotees who had congregated to witness the imperial procession of ‘Simha Vahanam’ in the morning. The deity in a meditating posture (yoga mudra) was the cynosure of all eyes. The devotees chanted ‘Govinda namam’ and sang devotional songs in the praise of the Lord. Later in the afternoon, ‘snapana thirumanjanam’ was performed to the deities followed by ‘visesha samarpana’ to Lord Malayappa and His two consorts at the Ranganayakula mandapam inside the temple complex. Meanwhile, both the footpaths leading to the town witnessed a steady flow of pilgrims since morning. ‘Garuda seva’ Amid expectations that there shall be a huge turnout for the ‘Garuda seva’ on Monday, Tirupati (Urban) SP Abhishek Mohanty, along with a team of police and TTD engineering officials, went round the mada streets supervising the arrangements for the event. All the routes leading to the mada streets were examined and works relating to the setting up of movable steel gates across the roads at identified points was taken up on a war-footing. Steel barricading and fencing all along the arterial roads were further buttressed. Deployment of additional forces at the four corners of the temple and other focal points, besides diversion of vehicular traffic, was also discussed. The day came to an end with the procession of ‘muthyapu pandiri vahanam’.
