Dhananjayulu has said the railway staff organised a massive cleanliness drive during the ‘Swachh Rail – Swachh Bharat – Swachhta Hi Seva’ observed from September 15 to October 1. ‘Avoid plastic’He said the Vijayawada railway station secured the 4th place in cleanliness at the national level. As part of the drive, several programmes were conducted on platforms, trains and on the railway station premises to enlighten passengers on cleanliness. An art gallery was arranged at the railway station in in Vijayawada in connection with the Gandhi jayanti celebrations on Tuesday. About 200 employees, right from officer level to Class IV, participated in the drive in all 140 railway stations in Vijayawada division, everyday.

About 200 employees, right from officer level to Class IV, participated in the drive in all 140 railway stations in Vijayawada division, everyday. Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel performed ‘Nukkad Nataks’ (plays) explaining to the passengers the need to maintain hygiene on platforms and on moving trains, Mr. Dhananjayulu told the media here on Tuesday. Earlier, the DRM along with Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Pinreddy Bhaskar Reddy, senior engineers Vara Prasad, Srinivas and Varun Babu, station director Ch. Suresh, participated in the blood donation camp at the railway hospital, in connection with the 150th Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations. Mr. Dhananjayulu inaugurated the Gandhi Art Gallery at the waiting hall on Platform No.1 and participated in the celebrations at the railway auditorium. He distributed prizes to the students who won prizes in essay writing and drawing competitions on the occasion. ‘Avoid plastic’ He said the Vijayawada railway station secured the 4th place in cleanliness at the national level. “Plastic is the biggest menace. During the drive, the sanitation staff collected about 1.5 tonnes of plastic waste at Krishna Canal Junction. We request the passengers to avoid use of plastic material,” the DRM said. Cooperation sought Arrangements are being made to improve passenger seating at the Vijayawada railway station, provide more metal dustbins on platforms and segregate dry and wet waste, Mr. Dhananjayulu said, and asked the passengers to cooperate in keeping the stations clean.
