Wild boar trap kills Bathukamma devotee

VIJAYAWADA: In a tragic incident, a man in search of ‘Tangedu’ flowers to celebrate Batukamma festival died after a bomb trap set up for wild boars exploded killing him on the spot in Kanumuru forest of Krishna district on Wednesday morning.The deceased has been identified as Gaddam Srinivas Reddy (40), a native of Korlagudem in Khammam district of Telangana . Speaking to TOI, the inspector of Tiruvuru , S Prasanna Veraiah Goud said that, Srinivas Reddy along with three others went to the forest to pluck Tangedu flowers as it is the main flower used in the preparation of Batukamma.They entered the forest between Kanumuru and Chikkullagudem area to collect the flowers.

Those along with Reddy thought that someone shot him with a gun but later the police confirmed that it a bomb trap that was set up to kill wild boars by the hunters.Gampalagudem sub-inspector Someswarrao said that they have identified the hunter who had set-up the bomb trap as K Durgarao, a native of A Kondur, and a habitual offender.Durgarao has been booked under section 304 part-2 of IPC, section 9 of Wildlife Act and section 29 of Arms Act and taken into custody on Wednesday evening. Srinivas Reddy’s body was shifted to Tiruvuru government hospital for post-mortem.
