Cop remand report claims murder attempt on Jaganmohan Reddy

VISAKHAPATNAM: Contrary to political claims and counter claims, the attack on leader of Opposition YS Jaganmohan Reddy was intended to kill him. The remand report submitted in a local court by city police stated the accused, Janapalli Srinivasa Rao alias Chanti, had attacked Jagan with a sharp knife with the intention to eliminate him.Srinivasa Rao was taken into police custody from the central prison at Adavivaram in the city on Sunday afternoon for further interrogation. Rao attacked Jagan on October 25 at Visakhapatnam airport . Initially, police officers and even the government alleged the attack was organised to gain popularity. The remand report, however, said the intention was murder. The report said though the knife was small and used in rooster fights during Sankranti, it was very sharp and had it hit the neck it would have killed Jagan.A few unidentified persons circulated a copy of the identity card allegedly issued by Telugu Desam Party (TDP to Srinivasa Rao. The TDP leadership, including minister Nara Lokesh described the identity card as fake to defame the ruling party.
