CM lays stone for Cancer research centre

Vijayawada: Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital and research centre in Tullur village of Amaravati on Thursday. “Priority should be given for research to detect cancer at an early stage and prevent the suffering of people. Amravatiwill be developed as a medical hub,” he said. In the first phase, around 300-bed hospital will be developed to create cancer awareness, prevention and early detection, provide state of the art diagnostic facilities, advanced methods of treatment, establish learning and research institute and function as a non-profit organization in the service of cancer patients.Naidu addressing the gathering stressed the need for more research programmes to prevent cancer. Speaking at the occasion, Naidu said, “Amaravati will become a major health hub with 14 medical colleges and super speciality hospitals coming in near future.”Cancer hospital and research institute with 1,000-bed strength will be developed in 15 acres of site allotted by state govt in three phases.
