Nandigama demands safe drinking water and jobs

Vijayawada: Despite being located on the banks of river Krishna, locals of Nandigama constituency are facing drinking water problem. While on the other hand water from borewells have become contaminated due to the nearby industries.“It has been almost ten years that we are fighting for safe drinking water. Flourosis and kidney related problems have become rampant in Veerlapadu mandal which has a population of more than 40,000.Despite drinking water supply schemes introduced by the state government many villages in Nandiagama constituency have been facing a drinking water scarcity. Around 800 kidney patients are getting treatment from our mandal. Altogether three engineering colleges and five-degree colleges are situated in the constituency and hundreds of youth are graduating every year.“Very prominent engineering colleges are located in Nandiagama constituency.

NTR Sujala scheme is limited to a few villages and we have decided to vote for a candidate who will helps us,” said K Naga Rathnam a resident of Veerlapadu.He added, “Supplying water from Krishna river seems to be the only solution for this problem and we hope it will be a reality soon.” Unemployment another major problem in Nandiagama constituency. Altogether three engineering colleges and five-degree colleges are situated in the constituency and hundreds of youth are graduating every year.“Very prominent engineering colleges are located in Nandiagama constituency. But there is no scope of employment. Local youth are flying all the way to Hyderabad in search for opportunities.
