This is the first time they have made their appearance at the expo organised by Lepakshi handicrafts emporium, the flagship brand of Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation. The uniqueness of the Banjara design is found in its embroidery, floral and animal motifs and the stitching pattern involving bright and contrasting colours. “The response is encouraging”, says Leelavathi, who designs and manufactures Banjara designer bags at her unit in Madanapalle. Equally alluring are the jute bags; available in bright colours. “We prefer buying jute bags not only for their aesthetic value and stylish look, but also for their eco-friendly nature. With this in hand, we can safely avoid demanding a plastic carry bag while shopping”, says M. Charitha, a student pursuing MBA. Visitors are also impressed with the new 'Pedana Kalamkari' varieties on display. The expo mirrors India's diversity, with products such as Kashmir silk, Bhagalpur silk, Kutch embroidery work, Bengali silk, Jharkhand silk, and Madurai cotton saris. The expo ends on July 17.
